About the position

The Source Control Representative position at the City of Tacoma's Environmental Services Department focuses on ensuring compliance with environmental regulations related to wastewater and stormwater management. The role involves investigating pollution issues, managing wastewater discharge permits, conducting inspections, and providing technical assistance to industries. The representative will work closely with the Pretreatment Program Coordinator and engage with various stakeholders to promote environmental compliance and sustainability in Tacoma.

Responsibilities

• Identify and inspect local industries for compliance with stormwater and wastewater discharge regulations.
• Evaluate discharge sampling analysis and issue wastewater discharge permits.
• Monitor industries to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and initiate enforcement actions as necessary.
• Assure appropriate user charges for wastewater management and update billing records accordingly.
• Investigate sources of toxic discharges and provide technical assistance for waste disposal practices.
• Respond to pollution spills and assist in containment and cleanup activities.
• Review commercial plans and issue approvals for wastewater treatment systems.
• Investigate damage claims related to sewer issues and flooding.
• Participate in special projects as required.
• Communicate with various departments and agencies to coordinate activities and provide information.

Requirements

• High school graduation supplemented by college-level coursework in business, science, or engineering.
• Two years of experience in an environmental, scientific, or ecological field.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with wastewater treatment and stormwater management regulations.
• Knowledge of Federal, State, and local environmental codes and regulations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
