About the position
The Sourcing Specialist/Senior Category Manager at Carnegie Mellon University is responsible for strategic sourcing, negotiation, and supplier strategy coordination within the procurement department. This role involves engaging with stakeholders to ensure the best value for the university while managing supplier relationships. The position requires strong analytical skills and the ability to conduct complex financial analyses, as well as mentoring procurement staff and advising on procurement policies.
Responsibilities
- Establish positive working relationships with stakeholders to understand their needs and provide timely and cost-effective goods/services.
- Define, develop, and implement a sourcing strategy that delivers effective service and outcomes.
- Conduct market research and maintain knowledge of industry trends, cost drivers, and economic indicators.
- Negotiate pricing, quality, service levels, and delivery terms for products and services, securing documented cost savings.
- Ensure fulfillment of contract obligations and conduct strategic business reviews with suppliers.
- Advise campus buyers on procurement policies and recommend updates to internal processes for continuous improvement.
- Mentor procurement staff and university colleagues on best practices to enhance skills and performance.
- Provide input into the procurement team's performance and review process.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or equivalent; Master's preferred.
- Minimum eight to ten years of experience in procurement services, with five years in structured strategic sourcing.
- CPSM certification preferred.
- Proficiency in MS Office required; Oracle preferred.
