About the position

Sunda is seeking an experienced Sous Chef to join our culinary team in Detroit, MI. As the second-in-command in the kitchen, the Sous Chef will be responsible for planning and directing food preparation, supervising kitchen staff, and managing kitchen operations to ensure a high-quality dining experience. The role involves modernizing classic dishes from Southeast Asia while maintaining their cultural significance.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and direct food preparation in the kitchen.
  • Supervise kitchen staff and ensure efficient kitchen operations.
  • Monitor food quality and presentation to meet restaurant standards.
  • Manage kitchen inventory and supplies.
  • Assist the Executive Chef in menu planning and development.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Sous Chef or in a similar role in a high-volume kitchen.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent culinary skills and knowledge of various cooking techniques.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle stressful situations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Southeast Asian cuisine.
  • Creativity in menu development and presentation.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations.
