About the position

The Sous Chef will assist in the coordination and execution of the production of Prepared Foods products while providing exceptional customer service. This role is integral to maintaining a positive and collaborative team environment, ensuring compliance with company standards, and enhancing the customer experience through quality food preparation and service.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Store Chef with planning and executing the production of Prepared Foods products.
  • Follows company recipes and specifications to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Partners with Store Chef to assess and adjust production needs based on sales.
  • Maintains production levels and updates production guide.
  • Responds to quality, consistency, and production issues, reporting them to Store Chef.
  • Ensures department compliance with all company organic standards.
  • Guides the work of cooks and prep cook/dishwashers, including planning and assigning work.
  • Maintains awareness of current ads, promotions, holidays, and events.
  • Completes customer special orders thoroughly and provides follow-through as needed.
  • Receives and unloads merchandise, checking quality, count, and condition.
  • Stocks and rotates products with attention to quality and expiration dates.
  • Maintains organization, rotation, and cleanliness of back stock areas.
  • Prepares food for all Prepared Foods stations and cases.
  • Works with attention to labeling, dating, storage, expiration dates, and food quality.
  • Processes customers' made-to-order items accurately and expeditiously.
  • Shares product knowledge with customers and makes recommendations based on their needs.
  • Follows company procedures for processing invoices, transfers, and credits.
  • Handles damaged and spoiled products according to company policy.
  • May participate in inventories.
  • Responds to and follows through on emails and other communications in a timely manner.
  • Notifies management of any situations that may adversely affect the store.

Requirements

  • Food Handler's card and ServSafe certification required.
  • Previous food production, kitchen, or catering experience required.
  • Experience in a high-volume environment preferred.
  • Retail or grocery experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of culinary terminology and techniques required.
  • Solid knife skills required.
  • Basic math and computation skills required.
  • Basic computer proficiency required.
  • Skills to work independently and manage own time in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities and needs of a retail environment.
  • Self-motivated with high attention to detail, quality, and presentation.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively in a team environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Previous ordering/inventory management experience preferred.
  • Experience with food service inventory management systems preferred.
  • Skills to manage difficult customer interactions preferred.
