About the position

The Sous Chef at Atria - Devonshire Estates plays a crucial role in the Dining Services team, responsible for preparing nutritious and appealing meals for residents while ensuring the kitchen operates smoothly and safely. This position involves menu planning, food preparation, and maintaining high standards of food safety and sanitation.

Responsibilities

• Prepare nutritious, appetizing, and attractive meals for residents.
• Review menus and food-production instructions, ensuring adherence to Holiday menus and recipes.
• Oversee preparation and set-up of service to ensure timely and attractive food presentation.
• Follow food safe handling procedures and maintain proper food storage protocols.
• Accurately complete logs such as refrigerator, freezer, and production sheets in a timely manner.
• Maintain cleanliness in the kitchen, including preparation and serving areas, pots and pans, and surfaces, following cleaning schedules.
• In the absence of the Executive Chef, oversee food service staff and kitchen operations.
• Focus on resident satisfaction and address any food-related complaints.
• Perform administrative duties including menu planning, ordering, receiving, invoice processing, inventory management, and payroll if needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in the culinary industry or full-service restaurant cooking.
• Effective communication skills in English and excellent customer service skills.
• Experience mentoring and directing kitchen staff.
• Ability to prepare and follow recipes accurately.
• General knowledge of sanitation and safe food handling practices.
• Basic computer skills.
