About the position

As a Sous Chef at Brookdale Senior Living, you will play a crucial role in assisting the head chef with the daily operations of the kitchen. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that the kitchen maintains the highest quality food products and service standards. This includes overseeing kitchen cleanliness in accordance with sanitation and food safety standards. You will be responsible for preparing and coordinating daily meals according to standardized recipes, ensuring that all meals meet quality assurance, presentation, and portion control guidelines. In addition to meal preparation, you will also coordinate and oversee the meal preparation process, ensuring that all dishes are prepared to the highest standards. Your role will involve supervising kitchen staff, providing guidance and support to ensure that all team members are performing their duties effectively. You will also be expected to maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment, adhering to all health and safety regulations. Responsibilities

  • Assist the chef in overseeing daily kitchen operations.
  • Maintain the highest quality food products and service standards.
  • Ensure kitchen cleanliness in accordance with sanitation and food safety standards.
  • Prepare and coordinate daily meals per standardized recipes.
  • Oversee meal preparation for quality assurance, presentation, and portion control.
  • Supervise kitchen staff and provide guidance as needed.

Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in culinary arts or equivalent experience in food preparation.
  • 1 to 3 years of food preparation experience, including sauces, soups, meat, and seafood.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of banquet production and planning preferred.
  • Current ServSafe Certification required.
  • Obtain and hold any local or state required food handling/supervision/sanitation licenses and/or certifications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a senior living or healthcare environment.
  • Knowledge of dietary restrictions and special meal preparation.
