About the position

In the role of SC Area Accounting Manager at HDR, you will be responsible for overseeing the accounting functions for all offices within the South Carolina Area. This position requires you to perform specialized accounting functions and establish internal controls that align with company policies, accounting procedures, and contractual obligations. You will work closely with the Area Operations Manager, Business Group Managers, Regional Controller, and multiple Project Managers to manage and coordinate area and project accounting systems. This includes monitoring area general ledger accounts, project budgets, invoicing, payables, receivables, and other related financial information. Your role will also involve auditing compliance with contractual requirements, which may include invoicing and reporting formats, net fee projections, and financial quality control. You will be tasked with reviewing and analyzing financial statements, preparing and coordinating monthly forecast reports, and annual budgets for the area. Advising management on the financial performance of the area and projects will be a key responsibility, as well as supervising the accounting team specific to project accounting and contractual obligations. Additionally, you will make staffing recommendations to management, select and deal directly with vendors related to area operations, and communicate with clients regarding invoicing, receivables, and project reporting. Supporting external project and internal financial audits, participating in project reviews, and identifying local opportunities for training and support will also be part of your duties. This position may require you to perform other related tasks as needed, and preference will be given to local candidates.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for accounting functions for all offices in the South Carolina Area
  • Perform specialized accounting functions and establish internal controls for procedures and practices in accordance with company policies, accounting procedures and contractual obligations
  • Work directly with Area Operations Manager, Business Group Managers, Regional Controller and multiple Project Managers to manage and coordinate Area and project accounting systems
  • Audit compliance with contractual requirements, which may include invoicing and reporting format, net fee projections and financial quality control
  • Review and analyze financial statements
  • Prepare and/or coordinate and review of Area monthly forecast reports and annual Area budgets
  • Advise management on financial performance of Area and projects
  • Supervise the activity of accounting team specific to project accounting and contractual obligations
  • Make staffing recommendations to management
  • Select and/or deal directly with vendors related to Area operations as needed
  • Communicate and correspond directly with clients with respect to invoicing, receivables and project reporting as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a closely related field or combination of education and relevant experience
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience; an advanced degree may offset years of experience
  • Proficiency with MS Office including Word and Outlook
  • Excellent verbal and written communication including grammar, punctuation, proofreading, spelling and telephone skills
  • Flexibility and ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and collaborate with various managers in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-motivated, well-organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to handle confidential information

Nice-to-haves
