About the position

The Sovereign Power General Manager will oversee and manage the operations of Sovereign Power, the energy utility owned by the Spokane Tribe. This role requires expertise in energy systems and utility management, with a focus on promoting sustainable energy practices within the tribal community. The successful candidate will ensure reliable and affordable energy services while contributing to the tribe's sustainable development goals.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement long-term strategies for the effective operation of Sovereign Power.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and tribal regulations governing energy utilities.
  • Develop and manage the budget for Sovereign Power, ensuring financial sustainability and cost-effective operations.
  • Manage a team of energy professionals and support staff, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Collaborate with the Sovereign Power Board, Tribal Business Council, community members, and stakeholders to address energy needs and concerns.
  • Educate the community about energy conservation and promote sustainable energy practices.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with external organizations, vendors, and contractors to support operations.
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies to improve efficiency and reliability of energy services.
  • Prepare regular reports on operational and financial performance of Sovereign Power.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Energy Management, Electrical Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in energy utility management, with a strong background in power generation, distribution, and regulatory compliance.
  • Deep understanding of power utility operations, including distribution systems and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to effectively lead and manage a team of utility personnel and coordinate projects.
  • Proficiency in power utility technologies, smart grid technologies, and distribution automation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge in budgeting, financial analysis, and cost control.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Energy Management, Electrical Engineering, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Experience working with tribal communities.
  • Understanding of the Spokane Tribe's culture, history, and sovereignty.
