The Space Physics Researcher position at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) offers an exciting opportunity to engage in groundbreaking research focused on the Sun and the heliosphere. As part of the Solar and Space Physics Group (SRP) within the Space Exploration Sector (SES), you will be joining a team of approximately 50 dedicated professionals and postdoctoral researchers who are at the forefront of space physics research. The group is involved in a variety of initiatives, including the design, implementation, and operation of significant spaceflight missions such as the Parker Solar Probe (PSP) and the Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe (IMAP). In this role, you will be expected to bridge the gap between science and engineering, developing new instrument and mission concepts that will advance our understanding of space weather and Heliophysics. Your responsibilities will include leading instrument development efforts through both internally and externally funded grants, focusing on new measurements that are critical to Heliophysics and space weather. You will also lead proposal efforts to NASA and other sponsors for competed Heliophysics missions, ensuring that scientific requirements are well-defined and traceable for mission concepts and instruments. Conducting original research will also be a key component of your work, contributing to the scientific community's understanding of space phenomena.
