About the position

Join the Propulsion System Engineering team - a group of motivated problem solvers. We're excited about the challenging projects we're involved in and have a strong commitment to the missions we enable. We're seeking an experienced spacecraft propulsion systems engineer who can help our team lead efforts to deliver high-quality flight propulsion systems. In addition to these duties, we are seeking an individual who can help our organization develop electrical propulsion solutions for emerging missions. Any skills and/or experience in the field of electric propulsion would be viewed as highly desirable. As a Propulsion Engineer II, your duties will include responsibility for the design, manufacture, procurement, and test for one or more propulsion systems, components and/or assemblies. This job requires coordination with customers, suppliers, test facilities, and other related fields including manufacturing, subcontracts, quality, structure design, analysis, systems engineering, and integration with affected subsystems and facilities. Work can include the complete life cycle of the system from definition, interfaces, conceptual design, detailed design, component development, procurement, assembly, testing, verification, launch preparations and on-orbit operations. The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers' missions. Our collaborative, cross-functional teams are committed to innovation, integrity, continual learning and strong execution. You will perform trade studies to select the most applicable and appropriate propulsion design solution given a set of design criteria and requirements. Participate in the development of innovative propulsion solutions and architectures. Technical writing (analysis summary reports, technical articles, system description documents, test procedures, test reports, SOWs) will be part of your responsibilities. You will support efforts to allow for accommodation of new and/or refinement of existing propulsion systems including propulsion system/component sizing, requirement development and allocation, performance analyses, design tasks, integration, test, verification, launch and flight operations. Additionally, you will support new business development, proposal efforts, and/or flight projects (definition, design, AI&T, launch, operations). Subcontract technical management including development of specifications, SOWs, interfaces and supplier data requirements will also be part of your role. You will maintain the subsystem technical baseline at BAE Systems, Inc. with supplier inputs and establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required. Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment. May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required. May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
