About the position

General Atomics (GA) is seeking a Space Systems Cyber Security Engineer to join our team in San Diego, CA. This role is pivotal in ensuring the security and compliance of our Space Systems solutions, which include modular and scalable satellite platforms designed for various mission requirements. As a member of the GA-EMS Space Systems team, you will collaborate closely with the lead Space Systems Cyber Security Engineer to execute program plans aimed at achieving and maintaining Authority to Operate (ATO) for our systems. In this position, you will facilitate the execution of the Risk Management Framework (RMF) process in accordance with NIST and ISO standards. You will tailor program security controls specifically for Space Vehicles and Ground Segments, deriving requirements that align with our operational goals. Your partnership with design teams will be crucial in ensuring that compliant design solutions are effectively implemented. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing the necessary cyber security artifacts to demonstrate compliance with established requirements and to achieve ATO. Your role will also involve supporting the development and execution of tests required for accreditation, ensuring that continuous monitoring requirements are met. You will perform thorough security assessments and vulnerability scanning, presenting cyber security design solutions to both internal and customer audiences during working group meetings and design reviews. Responsibilities

  • Facilitate execution of the Risk Management Framework Process in accordance with NIST and ISO standards.
  • Tailor program security controls for Space Vehicle and Ground Segment and derive requirements.
  • Partner with design teams to ensure compliant design solutions are implemented.
  • Develop cyber security artifacts required to demonstrate compliance with requirements and achieve ATO.
  • Support development and execution of tests required for accreditation.
  • Ensure continuous monitoring requirements are satisfied.
  • Perform thorough security assessments and vulnerability scanning.
  • Present cyber security design solutions to internal and customer audiences through working group meetings and design reviews.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree, master's degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; six or more years of experience with a bachelor's degree, four or more years of experience with a master's degree, or two or more years with a PhD.
  • Experience with system design to satisfy requirements of NIST Risk Management Framework (RMF), or similar standards including full lifecycle Approval & Authorization, POA&M and Monitor steps.
  • Familiarity with NIST800 standards including 30, 53, 82 and 171; ISO27000 Series standards and NASA Security Information Technology NPR 2810.1.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI security clearance is required.
  • One or more of the following security certifications: CISSP, GIAC Certifications, CISM, CISA, Security+.
  • Experience with space domain including satellite ground systems' mission management, command and control systems and/or satellites.
  • Experience with Network, Switch, Router & Firewall for TCP/IP and UDP networking design is highly desired.
  • Experience applying DISA STIGs.
  • Experience with systems leveraging VMware and/or Amazon Web Services.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the space domain including satellite ground systems' mission management, command and control systems and/or satellites.
  • Familiarity with network design for TCP/IP and UDP networking.
