About the position

QinetiQ has an immediate opening for a Space Systems Engineer to support the next generation development for our Tranche 1 Spiral. The candidate will provide technical expertise to government program managers to execute the Tranche 1 program. This role involves providing technical input and advice to the Program Manager and serving in a Systems Engineering capacity to support design reviews, test procedures, and to provide feedback and recommendations to ensure that the vendor's satellites will meet the Space Development Agency's (SDA) architecture needs. The position is critical in ensuring that the integration and testing of complex space systems are executed effectively and efficiently. The Space Systems Engineer will be responsible for overseeing systems engineering processes, which include managing cost, schedule, and performance trade-offs. The engineer will support the development of test objectives, plans, schedules, and the execution of tests, while also conducting analyses and developing reports. Collaboration is key, as the engineer will work with multiple teams and program offices to coordinate, develop, and execute system test plans and integration efforts. This includes planning, coordinating, executing tests, deconflicting resources, analyzing test data, identifying and facilitating the resolution of issues, and documenting test results. Additionally, the engineer will perform risk management activities, which involve identifying and assessing risks and developing mitigation strategies. The role requires supporting application product managers and coordinating cross-functional teams, including government, military, SETA, FFRDC, UARC, and industry partners. The engineer will also be tasked with developing briefings, written reports, and assessments for a variety of audiences, ranging from working-level personnel to senior executives.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and advisory services on complex space systems integration and test efforts
  • Oversee systems engineering processes, including cost, schedule, and performance tradeoffs
  • Support the development of test objectives, plans, schedules, and the execution of the tests, supporting analysis and developing reports
  • Work with multiple teams and program offices supporting the coordination, development and execution of system test plans and integration efforts
  • Perform risk management activities, including identification and assessment, and develop risk mitigation strategies
  • Support application product managers and coordinate cross-functional teams (i.e. Government, Military, SETA, FFRDC, UARC, & Industry)
  • Develop briefings, written reports, and assessments to be provided to a variety of audiences, from working level to senior executives

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in science, technology, engineering and math
  • Minimum of 8 years experience with satellite and ground systems
  • TS Clearance Required; Must be able to obtain, and maintain TS/SCI clearance
  • Strong Experience in requirements development and tracking
  • Technical and analytic understanding of satellite and ground system interaction
  • Understanding or experience in satellite and ground system acquisition processes
  • Experience in systems engineering
  • Experience in project management
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment with excellent oral and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Masters degree in science, technology, engineering and math
  • 12 years experience with satellite systems
  • Agile framework experience including use of Jira/Confluence
  • Experience with DoD and or IC customers
  • Current experience with space systems
  • Active TS/SCI clearance
