About the position

The Space-Track DevOps Engineer role at SAIC involves joining a high-performing Agile team dedicated to supporting the Department of Defense's spaceflight safety mission. The position focuses on developing and managing web and cloud-native applications, utilizing a cloud-based stack, and requires a versatile skill set to handle various technical tasks. The engineer will work closely with the US Space Command's Space Forces, contributing to the situational awareness of space satellites and debris.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and debug web and cloud-native applications in PHP, JavaScript, and other languages.
  • Apply in-depth understanding of software design and construction with a focus on web services (e.g., REST, API, AJAX) and data transmission formats/protocols such as JSON and XML.
  • Design, deploy, and manage various servers, databases, and cloud resources utilizing Infrastructure As Code (IAC) concepts.

Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain TS/SCI Clearance once hired.
  • At least five years of experience and a Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience developing, deploying, and operating production applications in a cloud environment.
  • Experience working at each stage of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), preferably in an Agile model.
  • Understanding of software design and construction using modern technologies, techniques, and architectures (e.g., Service Oriented Architecture).
  • Ability to calmly and efficiently debug, troubleshoot, and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Understand complex access and security models.
  • Self-driven and motivated to learn, with a strong sense of ownership, work ethic, and passion for problem solving.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with creating/modifying automated tests using TestNG or similar software testing frameworks.
  • Familiarity with client-side web development using HTML, ECMA/JavaScript, CSS and server-side web development using interpreted languages, such as PHP, Perl, or Python.
  • Understanding of SQL and relational database management systems (RDBMS), including database design, structures, and query performance.
  • Understanding of Linux systems, networking, and network protocols.
  • Experience with IAC tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Chef, and others.

  • Competitive salary range of $120,001 - $160,000 based on experience and other factors.
