About the position

DISH, an EchoStar Company, is seeking a dedicated Spacecraft Controller to oversee daily shift activities and ensure the correct execution of Tracking, Telemetry, and Command (TT&C) operations. This role is critical in managing spacecraft ranging and commanding during 24/7 rotating shift operations, adapting to both scheduled and dynamic operational requirements. The Spacecraft Controller will maintain detailed shift logs, prepare comprehensive reports, and provide timely project updates to communicate work status and milestones. Additionally, the role requires initiating immediate responses to any spacecraft and TT&C system anomalies, ensuring that operations run smoothly and efficiently. The responsibilities of the Spacecraft Controller extend to performing escalation notification procedures and striving to enhance job-related skills and professional knowledge. The position involves assisting with the technical development of junior team members, applying professional judgment to evaluate, create, and implement innovative ground system configurations that support dynamic operational needs. The Spacecraft Controller must also make informed troubleshooting and escalation decisions regarding anomalous conditions, anticipate and coordinate ground system reconfigurations to ensure robust TT&C link availability, and analyze spacecraft maneuver management. Moreover, the Spacecraft Controller will coordinate and implement crew activities to support engineering, management, and corporate requirements, reinforcing situational awareness of spacecraft operational activities, broadcast operations, and company objectives. The role requires investigating and analyzing long- and short-term spacecraft performance trends, managing criteria for monitoring all spacecraft subsystems, and researching, developing, and presenting advanced training materials to meet team and organizational requirements. This position is located onsite in Gilbert, AZ, and supports a 24X7 coverage schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily shift activities and ensure correct execution of TT&C operations.
  • Maintain shift logs and prepare reports to communicate work status and milestones.
  • Initiate immediate responses to spacecraft and TT&C system anomalies.
  • Assist with the technical development of junior team members.
  • Evaluate, create, and implement innovative ground system configurations.
  • Make troubleshooting and escalation decisions about anomalous conditions.
  • Anticipate and coordinate ground system reconfigurations for TT&C link availability.
  • Analyze spacecraft maneuver management and performance trends.
  • Coordinate crew activities to support engineering and corporate requirements.
  • Research, develop, and present advanced training materials.

Requirements

  • High School graduate
  • 5+ years of spacecraft operations experience
  • General or specialized knowledge of spacecraft systems and subsystems (Altitude, Propulsion, Power, Data Handling, Thermal, Mechanism, Payload)
  • Ability to work a non-standard 12-hour rotating work schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
  • Strong organizational skills and effective communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Detail-oriented with strong time management skills
  • Ability to support multiple projects and responsibilities simultaneously
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and computer networking and communications systems principles.
