About the position

The Spacecraft Engineer - Command and Data Handling Subsystem Engineer position at Maxar involves supporting the health, safety, and performance optimization of the Earth Intelligence spacecraft constellation. The role requires collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams to assist in the design, development, integration, and testing of next-generation spacecraft, particularly focusing on Command and Data Handling (CDH) subsystems. The engineer will also play a significant role in the transition to a new cloud-based ground system utilizing AWS technology.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Command and Data Handling Engineering tasks for the SCORE team
  • Support spacecraft launch and early/sustained operations by maintaining spacecraft health and safety, optimizing performance, and troubleshooting anomalies
  • Develop and maintain tools and methods to trend spacecraft health and performance metrics for the CDH subsystem
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the CDH subsystem for all Maxar spacecraft
  • Develop/refine concept of operations to meet evolving mission demands
  • Define spacecraft anomaly resolution processes and procedures
  • Troubleshoot/resolve/document spacecraft anomalies
  • Assist in development and testing of spacecraft commissioning plans/tools
  • Assist in the development of and participate in Launch and Mission rehearsals
  • Support design, development, integration, and testing of next generation spacecraft
  • Define, review, and verify spacecraft requirements for CDH subsystem
  • Attend vendor design reviews
  • Participate in clean-room integration and testing activities
  • Support other Maxar business segments
  • Provide detailed knowledge of spacecraft operations and spacecraft operational capabilities
  • Assist in ground software requirement definition, review, and verification
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and be willing and able to obtain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, math, physics, or related field
  • At least 5 years professional experience in Command and Data Handling subsystem design and/or operations
  • Four additional years of experience may be substituted for a degree
