About The Position

We have a current opportunity for a Spacecraft Systems Engineer, Lead to join our team in Chantilly, VA. This role uses a digital and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) approach to design, develop, integrate, and test end-to-end spacecraft systems and payloads through their entire life cycle. Serves as a senior technical leader for the development of Digital Engineering and MBSE processes and procedures as applied to space systems and missions. Is instrumental in attracting/obtaining major new business.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or other space-related discipline.
  • Minimum of 10+ years' experience in space industry, including developing, designing, manufacturing, and testing space flight hardware.
  • Demonstrated experience with Spacecraft development, deployment, and operations.
  • Must have a well-rounded System Level approach with demonstrated technical leadership.
  • Must have experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and SysML.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience with Cameo Systems Modeler (or related Dassault MBSE tools) or other comparable MBSE tool.
  • Experience with space systems engineering including an understanding of space vehicle design, space system architecture development, and space missions and operations development.
  • Attention to detail and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated in applying engineering principles, concepts, and practices of systems engineering to independently perform assignments.
  • Ability to travel - an average of 10-15% travel may be required.
  • Must have US Citizenship with ability to obtain a DoD clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Current or active DoD TS/SCI Clearance.
  • M.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or other space-related discipline.
  • INCOSE CSEP or other Systems Engineering Certification.
  • Experience with Jama or DOORS requirements management tool.
  • Experience with Ansys tools such as STK, Model Center, Workbench.
  • Python scripting.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and leverage Digital Engineering and MBSE tools to support the full systems engineering lifecycle.
  • Generate quantifiable requirements based on customer description, system planning and design, and acquisition logistics.
  • Ensure requirements comply with client requirements and government standards through formal verification methods.
  • Translate high level spacecraft development strategies into system requirement specifications and work with other engineering disciplines to develop lower-level detailed implementation requirements.
  • Define standards, practices, and procedures for the development of space systems.
  • Design interfaces and perform system integration.
  • Assess performance using evaluation criteria and technical performance measures.
  • Customer liaison and support for business development activities and to understand and shape requirements.
  • Participate in system conceptual design and modeling/documentation of design concepts.
  • Review test plans/procedures and ensures they meet the objectives of the contractual requirements and participate in the testing process to validate requirements.
  • Technical management of program elements.
  • Plan and conduct technical reviews.
  • Mentor, coach, train, guide, direct and advise junior staff.
  • Recognize and mitigate technical issues and risks while operating within budget and on schedule.
  • Work with a diverse community of engineers and managers to achieve the goals of the program team.
