About the position

The Paraprofessional - Pre-K Special Education position at Oklahoma City Public Schools involves providing essential support to the instructional program within a classroom setting. The paraprofessional will also handle clerical tasks to support teachers and maintain classroom organization.

Responsibilities

  • Adapts classroom activities and materials to support learning goals.
  • Administers classroom assignments to assist teachers in the instructional process.
  • Assists students with lesson assignments to reinforce learning concepts.
  • Communicates with teachers to evaluate student progress and implement classroom objectives.
  • Maintains classroom equipment and records to ensure a safe learning environment.
  • Monitors students in various settings to provide a positive learning atmosphere.
  • Performs general clerical tasks to prepare instructional materials.
  • Reports observations and incidents related to student behavior and safety.
  • Assists with personal care needs of students, including diaper changes and feeding.
  • Performs other assigned duties as necessary.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Completed at least 48 credit hours of college study, passed the OGET test, or passed the Education Testing Service Parapro Assessment Test with a score of 455 or better.
  • Must obtain OSDE Paraprofessional Credential.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and use pertinent software applications.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and perform basic math.
  • Knowledge of grammar, punctuation, child development stages, and age-appropriate activities.
  • Ability to work with diverse individuals and utilize job-related equipment.
  • Problem-solving skills to identify issues and create action plans.
