About the position
The School Athletics Coach is responsible for educating students through participation in interscholastic competitions, promoting academic success, and ensuring the welfare of all participants. The role emphasizes ethical conduct, respect for students, and adherence to district policies and regulations. Coaches are expected to foster a positive athletic environment and support the overall athletic program within the school district.
Responsibilities
- Educate students through participation in interscholastic competition.
- Promote opportunities for academic success among student-athletes.
- Enforce federal, state, and district policies, rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Adhere to standards of professional conduct as outlined in Governing Board Policy.
- Follow guidelines established by the NO Pass/NO Play policy.
- Ensure the safety and welfare of all participants during practices and competitions.
- Support the total school athletic program by encouraging student participation.
- Manage inventory, storage, issuance, care, and collection of athletic equipment.
- Schedule, organize, supervise, and control practices and competitions.
- Maintain and manage budgets tied to the athletic program (for Head Coaches).
- Supervise assistant and volunteer coaches (for Head Coaches).
Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Possess a current CPR certification.
- Meet all coaching qualifications, course requirements, and certifications as determined by federal, state, and District criteria.
- Pass background investigation as outlined by the District.
- Be recommended by Principal or designee.
- Receive Governing Board approval.
- Possess an active Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- For Head Coaches: Possess a valid Arizona Teacher or Substitute Certificate.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in coaching at the high school level.
- Knowledge of the specific sport being coached.
