About the position

The K-8 Music Teacher at Park City Day School is responsible for inspiring and guiding students in their musical education. This role involves developing a new music program and teaching music across all grade levels from kindergarten to eighth grade. The teacher will foster a love for music, cultivate performance skills, and integrate music into the broader educational experience, emphasizing creativity and critical thinking.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver engaging, age-appropriate music lessons that integrate Orff Schulwerk principles and instrumental music education for students in grades K-8.
  • Teach fundamental musical concepts, including rhythm, melody, harmony, and music theory, in age-appropriate ways.
  • Introduce students to diverse musical genres, cultures, and instruments.
  • Lead and support school musical performances, concerts, and events.
  • Foster a love of music and encourage creative expression through singing, playing instruments, and other activities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to integrate music into broader interdisciplinary projects.
  • Create an inclusive classroom environment where all students feel welcome and supported in their musical exploration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field (required); Teaching Credential and Master's Degree is preferred.
  • Experience crafting music curriculum and teaching instruments to children, ideally in a kindergarten through eighth-grade setting and preferably in the Orff Method.
  • Proficiency in one or more instruments including drumming, guitar, piano, xylophone, recorder, etc.; ability to lead vocal and instrumental instruction.
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative and team-oriented mindset.
  • Enthusiasm for working in a small school environment and contributing to the broader school community.

Nice-to-haves

  • Orff philosophy training or certification.
  • Experience directing school performances, such as musicals or concerts.
  • Familiarity with integrating technology into music education.
