About the position

The Academic Behavior Support Teacher (ABST) plays a crucial role in assisting school administrators and teachers in developing and implementing behavioral interventions aimed at improving classroom management and enhancing student achievement. This position focuses on providing support through modeling, mentoring, and collaboration to promote effective behavior management strategies, ultimately leading to increased learning time for students.

Responsibilities

  • Provide teacher-to-teacher classroom support, modeling, mentoring, and collaborating to promote better behavior management strategies.
  • Support teachers in data collection, analysis, interpretation, and usage of behavior strategies and programs.
  • Assist in developing and implementing behavior supports at all levels, including coaching teachers and modeling behavior strategies.
  • Facilitate and coach teams in developing functional behavior assessments and behavior intervention plans for identified students.
  • Help teachers identify obstacles to effective classroom management and monitor the effectiveness of alternative management strategies.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor behavior plans based on Functional Behavioral Analysis for individual students.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to deepen content knowledge and best practices.
  • Communicate with parents, peers, and administration regarding student behavior and progress.
  • Assist classroom-based teachers with basic management techniques and strategies.
  • Consult on individual student needs in the areas of Social Skills, Self-Regulation, and School Success Skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required.
  • Master's degree with advanced coursework in applied behavior analysis is preferred.
  • Valid Florida Professional Certificate and fully qualified in designated content area(s).
  • A minimum of three to five years of experience as a successful classroom teacher with documented student learning gains.
  • Extensive behavior management experience through coursework and continuing education.
