The Access Consultant at Purdue University Fort Wayne plays a crucial role in the Disability Access Center (DAC) by providing support and accommodations for students with disabilities. This full-time position involves managing a significant caseload, conducting assessments to determine reasonable accommodations, and ensuring students have equitable access to educational resources. The consultant will also engage in outreach activities and represent the DAC in various campus committees, promoting best practices in disability services.

  • Manage a significant student caseload administering access and support for students with disabilities.
  • Conduct the interactive process to determine and implement reasonable accommodations for students.
  • Coordinate the provision of reasonable accommodations in consultation with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Maintain appropriate records by documenting communication and recommended courses of action or accommodations.
  • Assist with the implementation of auxiliary accommodations such as Closed Captioning, Sign Language Interpreters, and Accessible Furniture.
  • Assist the Associate Director and Senior Access Consultant with day-to-day office responsibilities.
  • Serve as a member on division-wide and campus-wide committees as assigned or volunteered.
  • Assist with campus outreach activities that are educational in nature and respond to identified needs.
  • Promote 'Best Practices in Higher Education Disability Services' informed by the Social Model of Disability.
  • Master's Degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or related field.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years working within the higher education student affairs profession in professional and management roles.
  • Demonstrated experience working with individuals with disabilities in a postsecondary setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of State and Federal laws related to Disability Rights: ADA, Section 504, Section 508, ADAAA.
  • Ability to provide exceptional customer service to a diverse campus community.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and troubleshoot as needed.
  • Sensitivity when working with confidential information.
