About the position

The Accountant 1 position at the Arizona State Land Department is responsible for managing the accounting of Land Department receipts in accordance with GAAP and state policies. This role involves processing daily receipts, conducting research, and collaborating with the A/R Supervisor to ensure accurate financial management and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Post receipts to the proper lease number, beneficiary, and receipt type into the Department's AR system.
• Reconcile receipts and prepare daily deposits for the State Treasurer's Office, completing daily reports for receipts.
• Manage a portion of the Department's suspense funds and create intra-agency electronic fund transfers.
• Review fiscal documents for accuracy, timeliness, and proper preparation.
• Analyze employee travel reimbursements for compliance with SAAM and agency policies.
• Prepare and process bi-weekly payroll and examine fiscal transactions such as billing invoices and payments.
• Participate in daily group huddles and identify areas for process improvement.

Requirements

• A minimum of 3 years of professional level accounting experience.
• Understanding of real estate transactions and accounting principles.
• Proficiency in computer programs and automated accounting systems.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with Salesforce and AR research.
• Knowledge of Arizona Management System principles.
