About the position
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) plays a crucial role in managing the administrative and functional areas within the Nursing Department at Southern Hills Rehab Center. This position assists the Director of Nursing in ensuring the overall operation of the department aligns with company policies, nursing standards, and government regulations, thereby maintaining high-quality care for residents.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Director of Nursing (DON) in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the day-to-day functions of the nursing department.
- Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the DON regarding the operation of the nursing department.
- Develop methods for coordinating nursing services with other resident services to ensure continuity of care.
- Monitor day-to-day operations of the nursing department and manage records, budgets, or supplies.
- Confirm that all nursing personnel are following their respective job descriptions.
- Participate in the development, maintenance, and implementation of the facility's quality assurance program for the nursing service department.
- Participate in facility surveys conducted by authorized government agencies as requested.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and updating the resident's written discharge plan.
- Serve on various committees in the absence of the DON.
- Assist the DON in determining staffing needs and participate in interviewing, orienting, training, evaluating, and supervising nursing personnel.
- Delegate administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability to Charge Nurses and Nurse Supervisors.
- Make daily rounds to ensure nursing personnel are performing their assignments according to standards.
- Monitor absenteeism to ensure adequate staffing levels are maintained.
- Review complaints and grievances filed by department personnel and report to the Director as necessary.
- Conduct departmental disciplinary actions fairly and without bias.
- Confirm nursing personnel participation in the facility's TB testing program.
- Provide the Director with information regarding nursing needs and departmental capabilities.
- Inform nursing personnel of new admissions and their details.
- Make rounds with physicians as necessary and report any delays in physician visits.
- Review nurses' notes for accuracy and compliance with resident care wishes.
- Schedule daily rounds to observe residents' nursing needs.
- Monitor medication passes and treatment schedules for compliance.
- Assist in developing and implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Comply with and enforce safety and infection control procedures.
- Monitor nursing personnel for adherence to safety regulations in equipment use.
- Ensure cleanliness and safety of resident care rooms and treatment areas.
- Participate in developing procedures for safe operation of nursing equipment.
- Verify efficient use of nursing supplies to avoid waste.
- Participate in developing written assessments of nursing needs for each resident.
Requirements
- Must have a valid state RN License
- Experience in nursing management or supervisory roles
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Knowledge of nursing practices and government regulations
- Experience in quality assurance and compliance monitoring
