About the position

The ASL Interpreter position at Southern California Alcohol and Drug Programs, Inc. (SCADP) is designed to provide essential communication support for deaf and hard of hearing clients within a residential treatment program. The role involves collaborating with staff to ensure effective delivery of services and training non-hearing-impaired staff in basic American Sign Language (ASL). The interpreter will assist in case management and counseling services, ensuring that communication barriers are minimized for clients receiving treatment for substance use disorders.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the delivery of case management and counseling services to hard of hearing clients by ensuring proper communication.
  • Assist in the day-to-day functioning of the program in routine interactions with hard of hearing clients.
  • Train non-hearing-impaired staff in basic American Sign Language to improve their ability to provide service to hearing impaired clients.
  • Interpret for hearing impaired clients at appointments with outside organizations as needed.
  • Perform other tasks as required by the Program Coordinator.

Requirements

  • Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance and background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment, and education verifications.
  • Certified American Sign Language Interpreter is required.
  • Minimum of 1 year sobriety if recovering.
