About the position

The Assistant/Associate Extension Agent (4-H Youth Development) at LSU AgCenter is responsible for leading the 4-H youth development program in Grant Parish, Louisiana. This role involves planning, developing, and delivering educational programs that cater to the diverse needs of the local youth population, while also engaging with adult volunteers and community organizations. The agent will work collaboratively to enhance youth leadership, community service, and educational outreach, ensuring alignment with the strategic goals of the Louisiana 4-H Youth Development program.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, teach, evaluate, and report on youth educational programs that meet the needs of the parish's diverse population.
  • Deliver youth development programming through various channels including community clubs, school enrichment, and after school programs.
  • Coordinate youth and volunteer involvement in multi-parish, state, regional, and national 4-H programs and events.
  • Build and lead a strong volunteer base through recruitment, training, and management of adult volunteers.
  • Teach and equip volunteers in educational methods for guiding 4-H member projects in various subjects including STEM and the arts.
  • Assess and identify opportunities for volunteers to serve in management and leadership roles.
  • Ensure the volunteer screening process is implemented and oversee all aspects of 4-H program risk management.
  • Develop program delivery strategies that include virtual programming as appropriate.
  • Encourage and support health equity programming for youth.
  • Collaborate with local businesses and social service agencies to provide innovative educational opportunities for youth development.
  • Manage financial resources to support 4-H programming and ensure compliance with financial policies.
  • Develop and implement a communication plan for program participants and stakeholders using contemporary approaches.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree in education, agricultural sciences, family and consumer sciences, biological or social sciences, or closely related areas.
  • An overall GPA of at least 2.5 for undergraduate studies and 3.0 for graduate work attempted, or a master's degree with a GPA of at least 3.0.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers.
  • Experience in teaching and applying principles of leadership development to youth and adults.

Nice-to-haves
