About the position

The Assistant Director of Fleet Services is responsible for managing the Fleet Services Division, overseeing all aspects of fleet operations including service, repair, acquisitions, and operational reporting. This role involves strategic planning, budget management, and ensuring compliance with laws and regulations while enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of fleet services.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Fleet Services Division, overseeing all service, repair, acquisitions, auction, business operations, operational reporting, and executive correspondence.
  • Lead all administrative matters related to the City of Denton's fleet including acquisition, replacement, asset management, maintenance, repair, and disposal.
  • Lead the Citywide Bulk Fuel program to ensure a seamless supply of fuel to the City's fleet.
  • Plan, direct, and manage the day-to-day operations of assigned division workgroups, establishing proper controls, safety measures, and accountability procedures.
  • Analyze and evaluate programs and services to meet stakeholder needs and develop corrective actions for improvement.
  • Research and identify innovative ideas to enhance services and programs within the Fleet Services Division.
  • Oversee the Fleet Services strategic plan and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders on fleet resource management and requirements.
  • Administer departmental contract management and support contract dispute resolution efforts.
  • Ensure operational procedures meet City policy and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Monitor operational risks and implement mitigating measures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Project Management, Public Administration, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
  • Five years of experience in facilities management, facilities maintenance, fleet services, project management, local government, or related field.
  • Three years of experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local Government laws, codes, and regulations regarding fleet services.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning and resource allocation.
  • Skill in data analysis, strategic planning, problem solving, and action plan execution.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with underground storage tank (UST) installation and maintenance standards.
  • Intermediate skill level with Microsoft Office 365 and other software systems.
