About the position

The Associate Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing athletic training services at a local high school in Rhode Island while representing University Orthopedics. This role includes daily treatments, coverage of athletic games and practices, and working in the DME/Orthopedic Technician department. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including athletic directors, physicians, and school staff, to ensure the health and safety of student-athletes.

Responsibilities

• Provide athletic training coverage at interscholastic athletic events as per the Athletic Training Program Coverage Policy.
• Establish and maintain a budget for athletic training supplies and equipment.
• Develop comprehensive venue and condition-specific emergency action plans.
• Maintain adequate medical records on all injuries and rehabilitation procedures.
• Coordinate physical examinations and medical referrals for student-athletes.
• Act as a liaison between family physicians, specialists, teachers, coaches, athletes, and their parents.
• Work with coaches to ensure safety in fitness, nutrition, and conditioning programs for student-athletes.
• Provide direct patient care by fitting and instructing DME products to patients.
• Educate patients on insurance plans and financial responsibilities regarding DME products.
• Assist staff and physicians in problem-solving regarding brace fitting and patient needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree
• 2+ years of clinical experience
• BOC certified and possess state athletic training licensure
• NPI Number required
• Ability to communicate effectively in high-stress situations
• Strong decision-making skills under pressure
• Ability to organize, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision

Nice-to-haves

• Experience as an Ortho Technician or working with durable medical equipment
• Ability to travel to all sites as necessary
