About the position

The Auditor II/Financial Analyst position is a mid-level role responsible for conducting professional accounting and auditing analysis, as well as investigative work related to bankruptcy cases for a federal government agency. The role requires a strong understanding of accounting, financial analysis, and corporate business practices, particularly in complex bankruptcy scenarios under various chapters of law. The position involves collaboration with attorneys and government officials to ensure compliance and accuracy in financial documentation and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Examine corporate structures, including assets, liabilities, and management competence to assess the feasibility of debtors' operating plans.
  • Assist counsel in reviewing and analyzing bankruptcy cases submitted by individual debtors, ensuring the adequacy and accuracy of financial documents.
  • Perform technical reviews of reports and assist counsel with the analysis of bankruptcy cases administered by trustees, ensuring compliance with business principles.
  • Review audits of trustees conducted by Independent Public Accountants to identify weaknesses in trustee performance and recommend corrective actions.
  • Regularly review trustee accounting statements to ensure compliance with bond level requirements and make recommendations to government officials.
  • Perform additional legal tasks as directed by the United States Trustee or designee, including accounting, financial analysis, and research tasks.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years of experience in accounting or financial analysis (required).
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field (required).
  • One or more certifications such as Certified Insolvency and Restructuring Advisor (CIRA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) (required).

Nice-to-haves

  • Graduate level degree (preferred).
  • Two years of experience in accounting, financial analysis, and investigative work (preferred).
  • Two years of experience with bankruptcy cases, including Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 (preferred).
