About the position

The Aviation Infrastructure Specialist role involves supporting the development and maintenance of aviation infrastructure at public-use airports. This position focuses on planning, environmental compliance, and inspection tasks, ensuring that airports meet federal and state safety standards. The role is contract-based and offers a hybrid work environment, allowing for both remote and on-site work in Nashville, TN.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and update of Capital Improvements Plans (CIPs) for assigned airports annually.
  • Provide technical assistance on terminal and visual navigational aids and GPS approaches.
  • Support communities in compatible land use planning on and off airport property.
  • Coordinate and review Federal 7460-1 forms for on-airport development.
  • Review preliminary studies, surveys, and cost estimates for project feasibility and funding.
  • Assist airport sponsors with the development and review of airport master plans and layout plans.
  • Prepare property acquisition documentation and provide relocation assistance.
  • Review and approve environmental documentation in accordance with FAA regulations.
  • Coordinate with FAA and report comments to the State Historic Preservation Officer.
  • Identify aviation infrastructure issues related to maintenance, repair, safety, and operational needs.
  • Ensure project selection and continuity through collaboration with stakeholders and project teams.
  • Apply techniques and design criteria from technical manuals for aviation projects.
  • Review Independent Fee Estimate results for planning projects.
  • Learn about funding components and project selection processes for federal and state projects.
  • Engage with technical disciplines within a matrix organization for project success.
  • Utilize software platforms for document review and sketching.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • No prior experience required, but aviation experience is preferred for additional compensation.
  • 2 years of aircraft maintenance experience is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with FAA Advisory Circulars and federal grant assurances.
  • Knowledge of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Codes and Standards.
  • Familiarity with UAS (Uncrewed Aerial Systems) operations.
