About the position

The Aviation Safety Compliance Specialist position is located within the Department of the Interior's Office of Aviation Services in Anchorage, Alaska. This role involves evaluating private contractors' capabilities for aviation operations, providing technical assistance, conducting inspections, and ensuring compliance with aviation regulations. The position may allow for remote work depending on the selectee's home address, with travel requirements primarily from January to June.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate the capabilities of private contractors for aviation operations and issue qualification cards.
• Provide technical aviation assistance to the Department of Interior's Bureaus and Offices.
• Maintain a program of recurring visits to supervise operations and aviation operators.
• Evaluate qualifications of employees responsible for aircraft operations management.
• Conduct surveillance and inspection of DOI's fleet aircraft and contractor maintenance facilities.
• Serve as a team member for aircraft rental agreement renewals for aviation operations.
• Coordinate inspections with OAS authorized inspectors and the Forest Service.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Possess current FAA certificates and ratings including a valid Flight Instructor Certificate with Rotorcraft Helicopter.
• Hold a Commercial Helicopter Pilot Rating with Instrument or Airline Transport Pilot with Helicopter Rating.
• Have a valid second-class medical certificate.
• Minimum of 1,500 total flight hours and 1,200 hours of Pilot in Command (PIC) time in category.
• 25 hours PIC night in category and 100 flight hours PIC Turbine Powered Helicopters.
• Specialized experience in operational flying of rotor-wing aircraft and administering flight checks.

Nice-to-haves
