About the position
The School-Based Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) position at GIFTED Healthcare involves providing interpreting and support services for deaf or hard of hearing students in an educational environment. This full-time role requires BEI certification and focuses on facilitating communication between students and their peers, teachers, and other school personnel. The position is on-site in Austin, TX, for the 24/25 school year, with a commitment to supporting the needs of students and adhering to professional conduct guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate communication among deaf or hard of hearing students (DHH) and their hearing peers, the classroom teacher, and other personnel in the school system.
- Provide tutoring and/or note-taking services for DHH students.
- Follow the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment guidelines of professional conduct for Educational Interpreters.
- Provide interpreting for assemblies, concerts, ceremonies, field trips, or parent meetings when necessary.
- Carry out classroom management or individual behavior plans as designed by the classroom teacher and/or IEP team.
Requirements
- BEI Certification (Required)
- 1 year of experience in American Sign Language (Required)
