About the position

The Bioinformatician II position at Henry Ford Health involves collaborating with investigators and clinicians to design, collect, process, and analyze data across various domains, including genomics, imaging, and electronic health records. The role requires developing analytic pipelines, conducting in-depth analyses using computational and statistical methods, and preparing interpretive reports. The Bioinformatician will also provide guidance to other team members and act as a technical resource.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with investigators and clinicians in study design and data collection.
  • Develop goals, methods, procedures, and analytic pipelines for data analysis.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of studies using computational and statistical methods.
  • Prepare interpretive reports based on data analysis.
  • Evaluate biomedical informatics data across multiple domains and time points.
  • Document new approaches for data analysis.
  • Prepare proposal reviews and conduct seminars on statistical analyses.
  • Provide guidance and support to other bioinformaticians and support personnel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in genetics, statistical genetics, pharmacology, biology, biostatistics, bioinformatics, data mining, engineering with a healthcare focus, physics, or a comparable degree with four years of experience; or a Master's degree with two years of experience.
  • Experience with statistical/bioinformatics software packages (e.g., R, Bioconductor, SAS).
  • Scientific programming skills (e.g., Python, C, Java, shell scripting).
  • Knowledge of working in a Linux and/or command line environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with microbiome, biostatistics, and epidemiology.
  • Cloud computing skills and experience.
