About the position

The Building Inspector position is responsible for conducting field inspections throughout the City of Perry to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations. This role involves inspecting both residential and commercial sites, reviewing building plans, and documenting inspection results. The inspector will also respond to inquiries from contractors and homeowners regarding code compliance and corrective actions.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field inspections for code compliance at residential and commercial project sites.
• Inspect building, framing, footing/slabs, HVAC, and plumbing installations.
• Review approved building plans and compare them to actual construction.
• Document inspection results and regulatory actions in department databases.
• Respond to inquiries from contractors, builders, and homeowners regarding building construction and code compliance.
• Review and become knowledgeable in building, environmental, and land development codes.
• Perform other duties that support the objectives of the Community Development Department.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Two years of related construction or trades experience, or equivalent education and experience.
• Ability to obtain ICC Residential Building Inspection certificate within 12 months of hire date.
• Knowledge of laws, ordinances, construction codes, policies, standards, and regulations related to the job.
• Ability to read, speak, and understand business English and construction terminology.
• Knowledge of safety processes and procedures.
• Highly effective written and oral communication skills.
• Active Georgia Driver's License and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
• NPDES Level 1B Erosion Control Inspector certification must be obtained within six months of employment.
