About the position

The Camp Reed Program Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting the YMCA's mission by planning, organizing, and overseeing various camp programs. This position is essential for ensuring a positive and educational summer camp experience for youth and teens, while also fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for staff and participants. The coordinator assists senior directors in managing camp operations and activities, contributing to the overall success of the camp.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and management of the Junior Counselor program, Counselor-in-Training program, minicamp program, horse program and units, and other camp activities as assigned.
  • Supervise program staff alongside Camp Reed Directors and foster a welcoming, inclusive team culture for staff, volunteers, and program participants.
  • Assist Camp Directors with purchasing camp program supplies, managing supply inventories, and purchasing Camp Store merchandise for resale to ensure smooth operations.
  • Coordinate with vendors and partners to provide Special Programs and events, including Horse Heritage and Pride Cup.
  • Assist Directors with camper support by addressing and resolving behavior challenges, interpersonal conflicts, or special needs accommodations of campers.
  • Know, review, and apply all safety, emergency, and child abuse prevention policies and procedures, supply leadership and documentation of events, and respond to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA protocol.
  • Provide office support by managing camp-related documentation, including camper registrations, incident reports, and attendance records.
  • Provide customer service and support to program participants and families, staff, and camp partners by addressing inquiries and concerns via phone, e-mail and in person.
  • Assist with Camp Reed Fundraising needs and goals, including the Camp Reed Auction.
  • Maintain a courteous and professional attitude that reflects the core values of the YMCA: honesty, respect, responsibility and caring.

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 21
  • Bachelor's degree in human services, recreation, business, or a related field, or equivalent work experience (four years of relevant work experience may substitute for a degree)
  • Proven experience in camp, youth development, education, or service-based programming
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills
  • Strong interpersonal, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills to support campers and staff effectively
  • Completion of YMCA required trainings upon hire
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
