About the position

The Career Navigator position at Del Mar College is a part-time role focused on assisting students in their educational and career pathways. The primary purpose of this position is to support grant-funded students by providing recruitment, assessment, mentoring, and job placement assistance, ensuring their professional success and retention in the program.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the coordination and implementation of outreach and recruitment strategies for the integrated career pathway program.
  • Track student attendance, behavior, and progress for required THECB reports.
  • Refer students to a network of campus and community service providers.
  • Establish positive and trusting relationships with students.
  • Assist in the coordination and/or supportive services to support academic persistence and success.
  • Connect students to college admission processes, including financial aid, academic advising, and academic and student support services.
  • Document student contact and maintain accurate files in accordance with FERPA guidelines.
  • Facilitate student success by creating peer networks and fostering accountability and self-advocacy.
  • Monitor and track student progress and meet with students regarding academic achievement.
  • Actively outreach and recruit potential candidates and employers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • One (1) year of experience in coordinating education programs.
  • Experience in supporting at-risk populations and managing multiple student support activities and coordinating referrals to community partners.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Intermediate level computer application skills including Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of instructional design, program planning, and training environments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Social Services, Education, or similar background.
  • Experience with student recruiting and advising, workforce placement, or coordinating academic and social services.
  • Experience in providing case management supporting adults from recruitment and intake through certification and employment.
  • Proficient knowledge of Excel, instructional design, program planning, and training environments.
  • Knowledge of state programs and policies and local public and non-profit support services.
