About the position

The Catastrophe Homeowners Field Adjuster position is responsible for managing complex homeowner claims related to property insurance. This role involves conducting investigations, evaluating coverage, negotiating claims, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The adjuster will also mentor less experienced staff and may participate in legal proceedings, demonstrating leadership and advanced knowledge in claims administration.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field investigations and evaluate claim values on severe damage cases including total loss fires, earthquakes, and landslides.
  • Write structural repair estimates for damages exceeding several hundred thousand dollars.
  • Determine coverage by interpreting case law, insurance codes, building codes, and insurance contracts.
  • Recognize and address complex coverage issues appropriately.
  • Direct and communicate with forensic experts such as engineers and hygienists.
  • Negotiate with insureds, attorneys, and public adjusters to resolve high-value claims.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports on high-profile claims for senior management.
  • Mentor and develop less experienced personnel.
  • Participate in legal proceedings as necessary.
  • Address items that may be questioned in audits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 7-9 years of prior claims handling experience.
  • 7-9 years of property claims administration experience.
  • 4-6 years of experience in the construction industry (preferred).
  • Advanced knowledge of insurance, fault assessment, negligence, and subrogation principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and claims software.
  • Comprehensive understanding of vehicle and building repair procedures and third-party liability issues.
  • Advanced leadership, organization, planning, oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid Driver's License with an acceptable DMV record and minimum liability insurance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) certification (preferred).
  • Associate in Claims (AIC) certification (preferred).
  • Insurance/claims adjuster license may be required in specific states (preferred).
