About the position

The Centralized Services Consultant role at Equity Residential is focused on delivering exceptional customer service to residents through effective communication and problem-solving. This position involves handling inbound and outbound calls, negotiating lease terms, and ensuring compliance with housing laws while contributing to the growth and retention of residents. The consultant will work in a fast-paced remote environment, utilizing technology to manage communications and follow-ups efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Handle inbound/outbound calls and offline transactions to drive growth and retention of residents.
  • Deliver superior customer service by identifying needs and facilitating resolutions.
  • Negotiate with residents professionally to secure the best possible outcome, rate, and lease term.
  • Explain lease provisions and community policies to residents effectively.
  • Complete follow-up notes, emails, and call-backs promptly after initial contact.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local fair housing laws and landlord/tenant regulations.
  • Communicate market trends and challenges to team members and leadership.
  • Monitor personal performance against department and property objectives.
  • Demonstrate understanding of department processes and systems, particularly CRM and other software.
  • Organize and prioritize workload to manage follow-ups and resident communication efficiently.
  • Utilize technology to navigate multiple screens in a fast-paced environment.
  • Participate in continuous learning opportunities and stay current on projects and technology changes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree or some college coursework preferred.
  • Experience as a Senior Leasing Consultant or Leasing Consultant in a 300-plus unit community or multi-site community preferred.
  • At least two years of customer service or sales experience required.
  • Minimum of two years of negotiation experience required.
  • Comfort with high call volume and servicing customers via phone, email, and chat essential.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and attention to detail required.
  • Ability to solve problems independently and collaboratively with team members.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a remote work environment.
  • Familiarity with CRM, MRI, HUB, inContact, Wayfinder software.
