About the position

The Clinical Neurophysiologist is responsible for operating electrophysiological equipment used in functional mapping for deep brain stimulator (DBS) implants. This role involves instructing operating room (OR) staff, interpreting results of microelectrode recordings, and providing guidance for the placement of permanent DBS leads. The position requires technical proficiency in electrophysiological equipment and the ability to communicate effectively with the surgical team during procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Explain mapping procedure to patients and perform motor exams to establish baseline prior to anesthesia.
  • Operate and adjust MER and stimulation equipment, optimizing parameters for accurate mapping data.
  • Interact with surgical teams to provide necessary data for accurate placement of DBS electrodes.
  • Document and summarize DBS mapping procedures, including target structure details and lead placement.
  • Assist in training DBS technologists and contribute to ongoing research projects.

Requirements

  • PhD in biological science, neuroscience, audiology, or a similar field.
  • Two years of experience in general electrophysiological methods.
  • Experience with at least twenty cases as a DBS technologist or trainee.
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathologic processes, and aseptic techniques.
  • Ability to interpret microelectrode signals and synthesize mapping results for clinical application.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for interaction with medical staff and patients.
  • Ability to work with researchers, equipment representatives, and trainers.
