About the position
The Coder (Hospital - II) at ThedaCare is responsible for reviewing patient medical records and accurately assigning ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and ICD-10-PCS or CPT/HCPCS procedure codes for various patient accounts. This role ensures compliance with coding guidelines and regulatory requirements while collaborating with healthcare providers to obtain necessary documentation for precise coding. The position emphasizes timely coding completion and adherence to ethical coding standards.
Responsibilities
- Review patient medical records for inpatient, observation, and outpatient surgical accounts.
- Assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and ICD-10-PCS or CPT/HCPCS procedure codes to all accounts as per guidelines.
- Communicate with providers and clinical team members to obtain additional information for accurate coding.
- Manage follow-up work queues to ensure timely coding completion.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED preferred.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- One year of hospital coding experience.
- Diploma/certificate in coding: CCS, COC, CIC, or RHIT.
