About the position

The Commercial Handyman position involves performing a variety of repairs and maintenance tasks for commercial locations in the Fort Lauderdale, FL area. The ideal candidate will be a military veteran or spouse with experience in facilities maintenance, particularly in flooring repairs, and will be responsible for both preventive and reactive maintenance to ensure the functionality of multiple sites.

Responsibilities

  • Follow detailed scope of work provided.
  • Inspect buildings and other structures to determine functional systems and detect malfunctions and needed repair making notes and recommendations using a pre-established check sheet.
  • Perform minor electrical maintenance including replacement or repair of fixtures such as wall switches, outlets, and bulbs.
  • Perform minor plumbing maintenance including replacement or repair of leaks in drains and faucets, and unclogging drains.
  • Perform minor painting, carpentry, and masonry work including preparing surfaces and applying paints, stains, and varnishes.
  • Perform minor mechanical work such as removing and replacing pumps, hoses, and nozzles.
  • Work neatly and keep work areas clean, always cleaning up after each job.
  • Order parts, pick and return supplies at the hardware store, and maintain documentation/receipts.
  • Help assess situations and create an estimate of the time and materials required for larger repairs.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Experience performing routine building maintenance tasks.
  • Experience in one or more skilled trade fields (e.g., carpentry, electrical, plumbing, flooring) and/or general handyman experience.
  • Familiarity with a variety of tools and repair processes.
  • Must be reliable and able to travel throughout the surrounding area/region, sometimes up to 2 hours.
  • Personal vehicle required; SUV or pick-up truck preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license, have a clean MVR, and provide proof of insurance.
  • Personal tools required.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to operate tools and lift items such as ladders and equipment.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and drive for extended periods, up to 2 hours.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to weld (MIG/TIG/Stick/etc.) is a plus.
  • Mechanical background and/or flooring experience preferred.
