About the position

The Computer Support Specialist IV plays a crucial role in supporting a large government client by ensuring compliance with IT standards and maintaining network performance. This position involves configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting network devices within a Windows Active Directory environment, focusing on security and optimal performance. The specialist will collaborate with various stakeholders, generate reports, and recommend enhancements to improve network operations.

Responsibilities

  • Establish network specifications by conferring with users and analyzing workflow, access, information, and security requirements.
  • Evaluate network performance issues including availability, utilization, throughput, and latency; plan and execute the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of equipment.
  • Maintain network performance through monitoring, analysis, and performance tuning; troubleshoot network problems and escalate issues to vendors as necessary.
  • Secure the network by developing access controls, monitoring, and evaluation; maintain documentation.
  • Design and conduct training programs for users, providing references and support.
  • Upgrade network systems by conferring with vendors and developing, testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements.
  • Stay updated on job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional publications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline preferred.
  • 4+ years of experience in network administration with networking equipment, including maintenance and upgrades.
  • Familiarity with NIST Special Publications 800-37, 800-53, and 800-53A.
  • Possession of IT I level certification and IAT II certification as per DoD 8570.01-M.
  • Solid knowledge of information security principles and practices, with an advanced understanding of security protocols and standards.
  • Significant experience with Linux and Windows servers and network monitoring tools.
  • Excellent knowledge of best practices for management, control, and monitoring of server infrastructure.
  • Experience with firewalls, Internet VPNs, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to set up and configure server hardware.
  • Familiarity with backup and recovery software and methodologies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with various operating systems in a cloud environment, including UNIX and Microsoft.
  • Expertise in other Security Frameworks (ISO, NIST, COBIT, HIPAA/HITECH) and regulatory requirements.
