About the position

The Minnesota Court of Appeals is seeking up to two law clerks for a full-time position from January to August 2025, with the potential for extension through the 2025-26 term. This role offers a unique opportunity to engage in public service while gaining valuable training and experience that enhances career prospects in the legal field. Law clerks will assist judges in the judicial decision-making process by conducting legal research and case analysis, thereby developing essential skills in legal reasoning, writing, and strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and research cases on appeal.
  • Review records and transcripts from district courts.
  • Evaluate opposing briefs and supplement legal research.
  • Assist judges in synthesizing facts and law through bench memoranda preparation.
  • Aid in drafting judicial opinions and cite-checking them.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited law school is required.
  • Strong writing and research skills are essential.
  • Significant legal writing experience, preferably on a law review or law journal, is preferred.
