About the position

The Crew Chief at O'Hare International Airport is an entry-level management position responsible for overseeing daily operations to ensure compliance with customer service, company, and regulatory standards. This role involves assisting management with staffing, training records, and acting as a liaison between operations and management. The Crew Chief will also engage in customer service activities, including assisting passengers, managing baggage, and ensuring safety and security on the ramp.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation to ensure compliance with customer service standards, company standards, and regulatory standards.
  • Assist management with staffing, including schedules, outages, and vacations.
  • Act as a liaison between station operations and management, including email correspondence and shift summaries.
  • Maintain training records for all employees, including classroom and on-the-job training.
  • Participate in airport operations, meetings, and planning sessions.
  • Perform duties of a Ground Security Coordinator (GSC).
  • Greet and assist customers in a prompt, friendly, and courteous manner.
  • Provide check-in assistance, ticketing changes, and re-booking of itineraries.
  • Check and accept passenger baggage, board/deplane flights, and escort passengers as needed.
  • Comply with all safety procedures and airline policies.
  • Provide accurate gate, flight arrival, and departure information, and answer general inquiries.
  • Assist unaccompanied minors and passengers with special needs, resolving customer concerns.
  • Maintain knowledge of policies regarding unaccompanied minors and hazardous materials.
  • Provide clear communication to passengers, agents, flight crews, and vendors.
  • Ensure safety and security of the ramp and monitor customer safety during boarding and deplaning.
  • Marshal aircraft on the ramp and observe safe ground-handling procedures.
  • Carefully handle customer baggage and company material, including frequent lifting and loading.
  • Service aircraft as needed, including lavatories and potable water.
  • Assist in ramp setup and storage of equipment and baggage.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • At least nine months of prior airline or industry experience preferred.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Authorized to work in the United States and able to travel in and out of the United States.
  • Valid driver license and good driving record required.
  • Must understand, read, and write English; Spanish is a plus.
  • High school diploma or GED certification preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
