About the position

The Database Security Engineer, Assistant Vice President at MUFG is responsible for implementing and maintaining security systems to protect the integrity of various database systems, including relational databases, AWS cloud-native databases, NoSQL, and big data platforms. This role involves working collaboratively with a team of security professionals to provide guidance and support to operational, business, and regulatory teams, as well as performing expert-level database security incident response and investigation.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a database activity monitoring (DAM) platform for security and audit compliance, including policy creation, event and trend analysis, performance monitoring, and infrastructure maintenance.
  • Develop metrics and use analytics to identify security risks and incidents.
  • Evaluate updates to new/existing database security controls and coordinate testing and implementation with affected business partners.
  • Identify weak links in information security products and determine mitigation strategies for control deficiencies.
  • Respond to security incidents and assist with Tier-1 and Tier-2 incident investigations.
  • Perform root cause analysis of security violations to determine their nature and take appropriate action.
  • Work with database custodians to understand their security needs and assist in implementing practices consistent with the bank's information security policy.
  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors to demonstrate adherence to regulatory compliance regarding security controls.
  • Execute and enhance monitoring systems to detect and report security violations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related fields, or equivalent work experience.
  • 3-5+ years of technical experience in cybersecurity, insider threat, incident response, security operations, or related information security field.
  • Experience in the banking or finance industries preferred.
  • Knowledge of database security, monitoring, and protection.
  • Familiarity with database activity monitoring platforms such as Imperva Data Security and Data Risk Analytics (DRA).
  • In-depth working knowledge of databases and database technologies.
  • Familiarity with AWS technologies and methods including RDS (Relational Database Service).
  • Experience with data protection, cybersecurity tools, and methods.
  • Proficient with DAM, SIEM, UEBA, and related tools.
  • Detailed knowledge of major database platforms such as Oracle, SQLSERVER, MySQL, etc.

Nice-to-haves

  • Imperva Data Security Specialist (IDSS) certification strongly preferred.
  • Certifications such as Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Certified in Governance, Risk and Compliance (CGRC), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).
