About the position

The DCS Investigator 3 position involves performing professional investigative work of considerable difficulty, leading investigations related to child abuse and neglect, and handling complex cases. The role requires collaboration with various agencies and stakeholders, conducting interviews, gathering evidence, and preparing reports for court. This position serves as a team lead and mentor for junior investigators, ensuring compliance with DCS policies and procedures while maintaining the safety and rights of families involved.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a team lead and may mentor DCS Investigator 1 and DCS Investigator 2 positions.
  • Receives verbal and/or written complaints to determine if an inquiry/investigation will be authorized.
  • Identifies pertinent information to assess the validity of allegations received.
  • Gathers complete and accurate information for investigations.
  • Conducts interviews with multiple individuals to obtain relevant information.
  • Documents accurate information from interviews in a timely manner.
  • Identifies and collects evidence/data of relevance to the investigation.
  • Analyzes evidence to interpret the sequence of events and develop investigative leads.
  • Prepares reports for court and appears in court/administrative hearings to testify to findings.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with outside groups, law enforcement agencies, and court officials.
  • Communicates with coordinating agencies, victims, and the court system regarding investigative activity.
  • Addresses unprofessional behaviors with clients and service providers.
  • Conducts global assessments, including regular home visits to assess safety.
  • Determines if a policy violation or abuse/neglect has occurred and identifies perpetrators.
  • Develops strategies to resolve concerns and close investigations within policy timeframes.
  • Maintains and stores photographic, digital media, and audio evidence.
  • Coordinates work assignments with law enforcement/investigative peers in joint investigations.
  • Manages assigned work to meet investigative and administrative requirements.
  • Works flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and overtime.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a college or university.
  • Two years of full-time professional experience investigating fraudulent or criminal activity or child abuse and neglect.
  • Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age on the date of application.
  • Must be a citizen of the United States.
  • Possess a valid driver's license prior to and during employment.
  • Good moral character as determined by investigation.
  • No felony convictions.
  • Ability to complete a criminal history disclosure form.
  • Willingness to release all records involving criminal history to the appointing authority.
  • Ability to supply a fingerprint sample for a criminal history records check.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in military or law enforcement may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
