About the position

The Deputy Planning and Building Director is a senior management role responsible for overseeing the Planning and Building Department's operations, ensuring effective project management, and serving as a liaison between various stakeholders including the Town Council and community members. This position requires strong leadership skills, the ability to manage personnel and resources, and a comprehensive understanding of planning and building regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Direct, manage, and supervise personnel and resources within the Planning and Building Department.
  • Coordinate directives from the Planning and Building Director, Town Manager, and Town Council.
  • Plan, organize, analyze, and direct departmental operations and activities for effectiveness.
  • Respond to inquiries and complaints from the public and other departments.
  • Communicate development and zoning standards to property owners and contractors.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Participate in budget preparation and financial analysis for departmental functions.
  • Provide oversight for Town housing-related programs and implement the General Plan.
  • Analyze public interest in department programs and report findings to the Director.
  • Serve as Acting Director in the absence of the Director.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in urban and regional planning, architecture, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of responsible work experience in project management and local government management.
  • Strong knowledge of planning, building functions, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Experience in administration, supervision, and training.
