About the position

The Director of Human Resources at Merced College is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing the Human Resources department and ensuring compliance with various laws and regulations. This position involves managing HR classified professionals, developing and implementing HR strategies, and fostering a high-performance work environment. The Director will play a key role in promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion within the college community while supporting the overall mission and vision of Merced College.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day leadership and work with staff to ensure a high performance, customer service-oriented work environment.
  • Assist in directing the operations of Human Resources including employment, promotion, transfer, termination, and reduction in workforce processes.
  • Conduct investigations and write reports as needed.
  • Direct workflow, develop and implement department work plans and objectives, and delegate appropriate assignments.
  • Implement approved recommendations for assigned human resources functions that support the strategic plan.
  • Assist in the administration of compliance with State and Federal legislation and Equal Employment Opportunity guidelines.
  • Prepare reports and documentation for accreditation and other reporting responsibilities.
  • Provide consultation and technical expertise to administrators, faculty, staff, and the public regarding Human Resources operations.
  • Establish and implement human resources audit procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Assist in supervising the maintenance of personnel records and employment contracts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources management, business administration, public administration, organizational management, educational management, or related field.
  • Five years of increasingly responsible related experience in human resources management.
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
