About the position

The Primary School Teacher at KIPP New Orleans Schools is responsible for creating a positive and academically rigorous learning environment for students in grades PreK-4. This role emphasizes the importance of adapting and executing a standards-aligned curriculum, fostering a supportive classroom culture, and building strong relationships with students, families, and the community. Teachers are expected to embody KIPP's core values and contribute to the mission of providing unlimited opportunities for all students.

Responsibilities

  • Adapt and execute a rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum
  • Develop and/or modify academically rigorous lessons, unit plans, rubrics, and assessments
  • Use data to inform instructional decisions and reflect on how to improve impact
  • Provide students with daily feedback on performance and plan for individual learning needs/accommodations
  • Create a positive learning environment by developing classroom rules, systems, and procedures
  • Communicate a deep belief that all students can learn and belong in the classroom
  • Consistently implement the school-wide management policies
  • Hold high expectations for student behavior at all times
  • Embody and maintain school values, policies, and culture
  • Develop positive relationships with students, families, teachers, staff, and community members
  • Establish and maintain strong communication with all families and share progress
  • Actively participate in critical school events, including staff meetings, open houses, and parent-teacher conferences
  • Pursue ambitious professional goals and student learning targets each year
  • Give and receive positive and constructive feedback with colleagues
  • Participate in school-wide and individual professional development
  • Commit to creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for all students, families, teachers, staff, and community members
  • Participate in programming that acknowledges racial injustices, biases, and reflection on identities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Personal affinity to KIPP's mission and vision

Nice-to-haves

  • At least two years of teaching experience in urban, open enrollment schools
  • State issued teaching credential
