About the position

The Earthwork Superintendent for Asphalt Construction is responsible for directing field personnel according to project plans and supervisory principles. This role involves daily communication with the Project Manager regarding project performance and issues, establishing effective relationships with clients and team members, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards throughout the construction process.

Responsibilities

  • Direct field personnel according to the project plan and supervisory principles.
  • Communicate issues, events, performance, and progress daily to the Project Manager.
  • Report any problems promptly to the Project Manager to facilitate cost-effective solutions.
  • Establish effective working relationships with clients and internal team members.
  • Request advice and assistance from the Leadership Team on materials, sequencing, scheduling, and personnel.
  • Attend all Project Start-Up/Turnover Meetings and project coordination meetings.
  • Identify pre-mobilization activities in conjunction with the Leadership Team and Project Manager.
  • Develop start-up schedule with Project Manager and send it to the Leadership Team for review.
  • Ensure that as-built working drawings are maintained and communicated to team members and subcontractors as needed.
  • Assist in formulating and implementing construction schedules in the field.
  • Maintain the Project Baseline Schedule and ensure work performed meets client expectations.
  • Update Project Schedule daily/weekly/monthly as needed.
  • Provide progress reports with a look ahead of schedule to the Project Manager and field staff.
  • Ensure all team members participate in a safety pre-construction meeting prior to starting work.
  • Review the project daily for compliance with OSHA and project site-specific safety plans.
  • Manage site pre-construction including surveys and job site utilization plans.
  • Mobilize the field office and maintain the job site to organizational standards.
  • Organize documentation of the job site for easy access and review.
  • Manage outside subcontractor performance to quality and ethical standards.
  • Work with PM to identify and resolve personnel issues and construction process revisions.
  • Manage all phases of the construction process including documenting site activities and progress.
  • Strive to create synergy and a teamwork atmosphere on the project.
  • Lead by example by establishing work ethic guidelines for the team.

Requirements

  • High School/GED is required.
  • 10+ years of related experience in Earthwork/Excavation/Utility construction fields.
  • Valid driver license is required.
  • Minimum of OSHA10 certification; OSHA30 preferred.
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communication.
  • Diplomatic and conflict resolution skills.
