About the position

The Educational Assistant position involves supporting teachers in the supervision and instruction of students, assisting with educational, health, or language needs, and performing clerical tasks to ensure a conducive learning environment. The role is essential in maintaining classroom order and providing direct support to students, particularly those with special needs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers in implementing lesson plans and developing students' daily living and behavioral skills.
  • Maintain classroom equipment, bulletin boards, and student records to ensure a safe learning environment.
  • Adapt classroom work and homework under the direction of the teacher to support classroom objectives.
  • Monitor individual students and classroom activities to maintain a safe environment.
  • Perform record keeping and basic clerical functions to support the teacher.
  • Lead individual or group learning activities as directed by the teacher.
  • Administer first aid and medical assistance as needed for ill or injured students.
  • Assist students with job placement and on-site supervision of transition programs.
  • Administer tests and language assessments in bilingual assignments under teacher guidance.
  • Translate verbal and written communications in bilingual assignments to assist students and staff.
  • Confer with teachers, parents, and community personnel to evaluate student progress.
  • Participate in meetings to share information and improve skills.
  • Assist students in various settings such as the media center, lunchroom, and playground.

Requirements

  • Job-related experience with school-age children, either paid or volunteer.
  • Skills to perform basic clerical functions and arithmetic calculations.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and use English effectively in written and verbal form.
  • Knowledge of child development principles and instructional processes, especially in bilingual settings.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and maintain confidentiality of student records.
  • Physical abilities including stooping, reaching, standing for long periods, and walking up and down stairs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual/Bicultural skills preferred.

Benefits

  • Full-time position with a competitive hourly wage ranging from $19.49 to $31.20.
  • Work schedule aligned with school days, Monday through Friday, for 6.5 hours per day.
